Lisa Collins

Picture
I am self employed, and I live and work in Minnesota.   I am originally from Michigan.  My love of art was ignited when an acrylic painting of pink flowers I made in a high school art class was selected to be hung in my high school.  It is still there today (so I hear)!

I have created abstract art my entire life and truly enjoy creating fantastical florals using acrylic, mixed media.  Texture is important to me.  Once you 'feel' something for my work I want you to be able to touch it and know that feeling was real.

I created The EllaRose Galley to inspire myself, as well as others to continue creating art and adding beauty to the world.   I am honored to be working with such diversely talented artists.

Mary Ellen Prewedo

Picture
Minnesota artist Mary Ellen Prewedo grew up on a small farm in North Dakota. From an early age, she has involved herself in the creative process, anything from sewing Barbie clothes to creating pictures by cutting and pasting fabric flowers onto anything she could find. The creative urge has always been present.

She began her artistic journey in earnest in her adult years by teaching herself woodworking and created furniture and home accessories from salvaged wood that she collected from abandoned farms. She would leave the items in their natural state of peeling wood and rust, loving the patina that only time can create. As time went on, she began to ask the "What if" question. What if I created the lovely patina by using different, modern day processes and painted it on say, a canvas? This led her to painting and color theory. The layers of paint, scraped back to show the underlying colors, roughness and patina signified the many layers of life, which makes up the item or the person that you see today.  She creates with acrylic paints, impasto and other mixed media material.  Abstraction is magic to her.  This quote from Jackson Pollock exactly states the way she feels about abstraction, "If people would just look at the paintings, I don't think they would have any trouble enjoying them.  It's like looking at a bed of flowers, you don't tear your hair out over what it means."

The artist has created many layers of acrylic and mixed media in blues, greens and yellows. You know that sound raindrops make when they fall to the ground and form puddles in the grass? Artists rendition of soft rain falling. It's been finished with a protective coating, wired and ready to hang. All materials are archival quality.

Tequila Sunrise

$425.00

Here our artist presents a gallery wrapped canvas done in acrylic and mixed media. Many layers of paint and texture material are applied with knives, brayers and other tools. All archival quality material is used. The painting is sealed with a protective coating, signed and dated on the back. It is wired and ready to hang as is. Can you feel the heat emanating from this one? The texture is deep and the colors are warm and bright! Looks like oil and cold wax, but it's done in a technique the artist has mastered.

Jorge Galvez

Picture
Detroit artist Jorge Galvez's work is about tension resolution - in the dream, nightmare and reality realms.  In his paintings, we find the means  to liberate our psyche from it's enslavement to reason.  His style is, on the one hand, almost photographically realistic while at the same time coexisting with phantasmagoric images that exist only beyond reality.  Woman are central to all of Galvez's work.  His serious play is reminiscent of Salvatore Dali's.  They seem to share a desire to provoke and share their own personal fantasies.

Currently, there is a documentary being filmed about the works and history of Mr.  Jorge Galvez.  He is a well known, local celebrity when it comes to his artwork in Michigan.  Check back with us as we await a small clip of his documentary to be shared with our gallery!

Melissa Kugler

Picture

My name is Melissa Kugler, I’ve been creating art for a little over 6 years, I picked up a watercolor palette and this adventure began. Each piece I create is a learning experience. One neat thing about many of my paintings is you are able to turn them in all directions for a different view of the same piece. With my work, I deconstruct then reconstruct. I like to relate the color I use to the emotions I feel. I don’t go into making one specific piece of art, I find it easier to create in the moment. Different colors, shapes and ideas help me express that and bring many of my pieces to life.

Debbie Bzdyl

Picture
In 1992 I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. Mom once
laughed and said, “Debbie was born with a box of crayons in
her hand.” By the age of six, I had won my first art contest,
sponsored by a Saturday morning children’s show called Tim’s
Treetop Forest.  In college, I turned my attention to graphic design. From 1983 until 1991, I worked as a graphic designer for several different organizations.  In 1992 I started my own graphic design business, which continued until I retired in December 2013.  Since my return to fine art, I have been accepted into many juried shows, won several awards and have paintings in several public and private collections throughout the United States.  Each of my paintings comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Early in my career, I painted in a realistic style, but have gradually moved more toward impressionism and abstract.  I especially enjoy abstract because it allows me to give form to the intangible and to express realities beyond what we can observe in everyday life.  The beauty of our magnificent and mysterious universe is especially appealing to me - its morphing, evolving, ever-changing dance of becoming. This led me to create my “Cosmic Dance” series.  My latest series, “Early Earth,” pays homage to the wonder and power of how our earth came to be.  Whether it’s the mystery of the cosmos or our own private journey through life as we grow, change, and redefine ourselves – that is what touches my soul and keeps me coming back to the canvas.  Robert Henri, an American painter and teacher in the early 1900s said we all have a song inside us and it is the responsibility of artists to be true to ourselves and sing with all our hearts. It is my hope that “the song I sing” through my art inspires those who see it and allows them to experience the world in new and beautiful ways.

Gene Barron

Picture
Gene Barron is a self-taught, multimedia artist from the Houston area.  With a passion for painting and drawing developing at an early age, he has created pieces in a variety of themes ranging from dark oriented, low brow art, to his latest endeavors in abstract expressionism.  It is through this obsession with the creation of abstract work that he feels truly challenged and fulfilled.  Paying close attention to the elements of balance, movement, and proportion, Gene works to develop each piece into a creation that evokes a wide range of feelings and emotion from the viewer.  Though his influences include Franz Kline, Basquiat, and Francis Bacon, it is evident that he chooses to forge his own, unique path, utilizing his personal life experience and observations of the human condition in relation to art in each piece that he creates.
His works can be found in the Atkinson Gallery in Chicago, Illinois and frequently displayed in galleries and during various art events in the Houston area.  Many of his pieces have been chosen to be featured as cover art for a number of online abstract art sites.  Interviews with Gene Barron can be found in Voyage Magazine and Abstract 100.
